Seed. A couple days ago I was thinking about approaching the English language from an academic perspective. Here's where I'll write what I find interesting after doing some research about English degrees. What does an English degree cover? The goal of an English degree is to help students think more creatively and analytically about the English language. It is intended for students already proficient in written and spoken English. An English degree can focus on literature and language, though some may specialize in one or the other. A course with a focus on literature will allow you to analyze texts from diverse authors and periods throughout history. Reading said texts will require you to analyze multiple factors about them, including their social, economical, historical and political contexts. Definition The guillotine was an apparatus designed for carrying out executions by beheading. This device is conformed by a tall and upright frame in which a weighted and angled blade is lifted to the top. The person to be executed is restrained below at the bottom of the frame. With the acceleration provided by gravity the blade cuts through the neck of the prisoner. The device was used widely in France, in particular during the French Revolution. It remained as the standard method in France to execute criminals until the abolition of capital punishment in 1981.
